About Holly's Big Imagination

Holly's Big Imagination is a must-read for children and preschoolers learning to conquer their fear of the dark!  It is a story about fantasy and discovery, taking the reader on a whimsical bedtime adventure into Holly's imagination.  But what appears to unfold in the murkiness of the dim night air isn't at all what Holly expected!  And what happens next when the light goes back on is the biggest surprise of all!

Reviews

Fun, whimsical and sometimes scary this
creative story will hold any child's attention
each step of the adventure.

It's an easy read for children and creatively illustrated
through the entire journey.

Kudos to Diane Creekmur in her first entry
into the Children's Story world.
Well done.

Don Linder, Author and publisher of Yoo Dee's 5 Favorite Children's Stories

The author’s use of colorful and simple artwork, lend to the overall adventure that I believe children will find in reading this book over and over. Pink horses flying through clouds and sparkling lights are sure to capture the imaginations of the young readers.  Where the squirming fish come from in her mind, remind me of the people who constantly ask me where I conjure up my own tales. I think the imagination this new author has is worthy of a deep and spirited interest by avid readers and those who wish to instill imagination in their children.

Holly’s Big Imagination is a delightful story about differences between perception and reality all children experience, especially at bedtime. Creekmur tells a familiar tale, but she does so in a very effective way, combining points of view from parents, and the main character, Holly. Great children’s books speak to parent and child simultaneously, and this one doesn’t fail to uphold the requirement.

Robert Davies, IPPY Award-winning author

This book would make a great mentor text for elementary educators. Built within the text are many different story elements that can be taught using state standards. It has everything from author’s craft with the use of language and grammar, theme, figurative language, character traits, sequencing, and having students make their own connections.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is when Papa tells his daughter, “But you are the artist of your imagination. You can take charge of the pictures you paint in your head.” What a wonderful way to show emotional support and let children know they are in charge of their own thinking.

I would give this a 5-star rating as a tool to use in the classroom, as well as for parents as a delightful bedtime story.

Sara Thompson, 4th Grade educator

When I started reading Holly’s Big Imagination I found myself immediately in the middle of Holly’s bedroom, experiencing all her emotions and her imaginings. This is a children’s picture book that pulls you in and keeps your attention until the very last sentence when you let out a sigh that says ‘All’s right with the world’. The illustrations are charming and the text is filled with vivid and exciting language. It is bound to delight both reader and listener.

Mary Reinhart, Award-winning author of "The Magical Love Box" and former teacher

Holly’s Big Imagination is a whimsical and creative children's story written with wit and charm. The story allows Holly to use her imagination to face fears and the unknown in a delightful and safe way.  This book is a wonderful story for readers experiencing bedtime anxiety. It is a reassuring tale that engages the child to rely on their imagination to explain the unknown and defeat bedtime fears.

I would recommend Holly’s Big Imagination to parents and teachers alike.

Vivid, colorful images spur the reader to use his or her own "imagination" and envision all that the author depicts on each page of this whimsical and playful book. Creekmur's innovative choice of creative word combinations and descriptions are sure to delight and bring out the artist inside a young child's mind.
